In February 2014 the national unemployment rate ticked up to 6.7%. The national rate has fallen 1 percentage point in the past 12 months. However, the Tennessee unemployment rate was an estimated 6.9% in February, falling below 7% for the first since 2008. Still, Tennessee ranks 37th in terms of overall employment rate (Rhode Island is the worst at 9.0%. North Dakota is best at only 2.6%).
