The king cake is a century’s old tradition during Mardi Gras. In most places, a small plastic baby or other trinket is baked into a cake. The person who finds the trinket usually gets some privilege or prize.
Looking for a fun office twist? Treat the coworker who finds the “king” to some extra perks, like an extra day of vacation time, free lunch, or a cash bonus.

Coffee and Beignets
Another Mardi Gras tradition! Beignets are a deep-fried French pastry. They’re especially popular in the cafés surrounding the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Even better? These tasty confections go great with coffee; a staple in just about every workplace in the country! And they’re sure to create more buzz than a box of stale donuts or bagels.
Making beignets had be a little tricky and time consuming. Check out this recipe from the queen of southern cooking, Paula Deen!
Fat Tuesday is just another word for Mardi Gras; a traditional time for one last pig out before the fasting season of Lent.
Don’t be afraid to keep it simple at your office! Throw a potluck and have everyone in the office bring his or her favorite Mardi Gras inspired dish.
We may have talked a lot about keeping those New Year’s resolutions in past articles. It’s ok to give it up for one day out of the year in the name of office morale!
