Attitude and Effort: Real Goals for 2015
By Dayna Carter
2015 is here. It’s that time of year where we all sit down and think about what we want to accomplish in the next 12 months. Of course, sometime in February we’ll all be talking about why those resolutions didn’t quite work out! That got me thinking…we’d probably be a lot more successful with our goals in general if we resolved to be better at those traits that lead to success. Namely, attitude and effort.
Attitude and effort are so important in every facet of your life. Whether it is work, sports or school, the preparation you put into a task makes the difference. My husband and I preach to our 3 kids the importance of the attitude and effort they put into things. Guess what, failure happens. Sometimes you don’t win. Sometimes your New Year’s resolutions fail. But you can always grow from those failures if you have the right attitude and effort.
Don’t get me wrong, results are important. But they aren’t the only valuable thing that can come from an experience. I tell my kids, “If you’re going to do something, do it 100% or your wasting everyone’s time including your own.” If you have poor effort, you will most likely have a poor result. If you’ve got a bad attitude, you won’t realize your full potential because you’re heart isn’t in it.
Instead, go after it with a great attitude and great effort and you can be happy with the end result. It might not always end in a victory, but you’ll never be able to say it was because of a lack of attitude or effort!
