4 Great Places under 4 hours from Nashville
By Roxanne Ebbers
The capitol of Tennessee is one of the most exciting and entertaining cities in the South. I could spend every weekend exploring the great venues this city! But sometimes you gotta branch out! So here are 4 great places to visit fewer than 4 hours from Music City!
Land Between the Lakes
Located approximately 95 miles Northwest of Nashville, TN. LBL is exactly as it sounds- Land Between the Lakes. LBL is an inland peninsula that is formed in between the gorgeous Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. This is a great spot to get away from the city life and step into the wilderness. This area offers a variety of outdoor activities for your enjoyment. Some of these activities include camping, hunting, swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, and biking. A visit to Land Between the Lakes secures you the relaxation and tranquility that you may be in search of.
130 miles Southeast of Nashville, TN. Chattanooga is known by many Tennesseans, but rarely visited. Seize the opportunity to visit this breathtaking city. Some of these scenic spots found in the picturesque city include Lookout Mountain, Rock City, and Raccoon Mountain Caverns. Chattanooga is also known for the numerous railways that are offered. The Chattanooga Choo Choo is by far the most famous. Chattanooga also has tons of beautiful architecture from the Walnut Street Bridge to Coolidge Park and River Gallery Sculpture Garden. Chattanooga also offers the Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga Nature Center, and Chattanooga Zoo.
Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge,
Located approximately 220 miles East of Nashville, TN. The Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge area is a beautiful destination nestled in the Smoky Mountains. There is fun to be had in all seasons. During the summer, white water rafting is offered. During the winter, skiing and snowboarding is available. There are a multitude of log cabins and resorts available for your relaxation needs. Dolly Parton’s Dollywood amusement park can be found in Pigeon Forge. There are also a number of indoor water parks, mini golf, go-karts, and arcades that appeal to kids of any age. For adults, The Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery can be found in Gatlinburg.
250 miles Southeast of Nashville. Atlanta offers fun for every age, in all walks of life. Sporting fans might enjoy catching a game with any one of Atlanta's sports teams...the Braves, Falcons or Hawks. For the cultured individual, Atlanta offers many Art and Natural History museums. Families might enjoy taking the kiddos to the Atlanta Zoo, Georgia Aquarium, or Six Flags over Georgia amusement park. Others might be more interested in Atlanta’s thriving nightlife. From personal experience, I have found the Atlanta City Pass to be very useful. This City Pass grants you admission to visit 5 different attractions for a combined, reasonable price.
